Varanasi is located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. it is regarded as the most sacred Hindu city. Stretching along the River Ganges within the city are the Ghats. Although primarily used for bathing and ceremonies, two Ghats remain reserved for crematorial purposes. Open cremations are maintained from dusk until dawn. It is said that if one dies in Varanasi they gain Moksha, freeing themselves from Samsara – the cycle of death and rebirth.
‘The Ghats’ is a selection of photographs I created during my time spent in Varanasi.
